A Story of Why The Haymaker District Matters

In the heart of Cozad, there is a place where creativity is not just encouraged it’s lived. A place where history is preserved, where new ideas take shape, where students discover their voice, and where community members gather to celebrate what makes Cozad unique. That place is the Haymaker Creative & Historic District.

The Haymaker District began with a simple belief: Cozad deserves a vibrant, visible center of creativity. A place where artists, makers, students, families, and visitors can experience the energy of a community that values imagination, expression, and connection. Over the past few years, that belief has transformed into action and into impact.

We’ve built partnerships with schools, museums, small businesses, and local creators. We’ve supported student programs, launched the Cozad Collective Art Gallery, revitalized spaces, elevated local talent, and created opportunities for people of all ages to engage with the arts. We’ve made creativity something you can see, touch, and feel when you walk downtown.

And we’re just getting started.

The Haymaker District is not a building. It’s not a single program. It’s a movement one that is reshaping how Cozad sees itself and how others see Cozad.

• Expand programming for students and emerging creators
• Grow the Cozad Collective Art Gallery
• Support public art installations and beautification projects
• Strengthen partnerships with local businesses and cultural organizations

Our goal is to make Cozad a regional destination for creativity, culture, and community connection.

Our Accomplishments 

Since 2022 the Haymaker District has hit the ground running. In the last year here are some of the things we have done. 

• Created a beautiful welcome garden letting visitors know they are entering The Haymaker District 
• Planted the seed for a Makers Market in the Cozad community
• Implemented artist competitions 
• Created the Cozad Collective where local artists talents are shared
• Hosted Hearts and Arts for the Holidays where regional artists are showcased
• Became part of the Sculpture Walk Across Nebraska communities
• First ever arts festival in 2026
