Bilyash's life has been so harrowing and traumatic it could be a movie plot. But unfortunately it's all true - he's had to fight time and again to survive. Bilyash was born into a war zone and grew up on the street in Ukraine. While he had someone who fed him, when he showed up with wounds after being attacked by a dog, no one helped him. He survived the harsh winter, but only barely. The wounds from the dog attack kept getting worse without any treatment and his fur became matted. How many people saw him struggling?

Thankfully, Bilyash was discovered by one of the rescuers from WOW Ukraine, a group providing care and shelter to abandoned and homeless cats and dogs in Ukraine. The rescuer convinced the person feeding Bilyash to let her help him and he was rushed to their clinic. There he spent two weeks receiving lifesaving treatment for his wounds and being shaved due to severe matting and a skin condition. They also discovered the dog attack had injured one of his eyes, but were able to save it.

You would think that's when Bilyash's story turned around and he would find a happy ending. After recovering at the WOW shelter and healing from his wounds, Bilyash was adopted by a family in Ukraine. Within 24 hours, the family had left the door open, and Bilyash made his escape. The WOW team spent over 20 days searching for Bilyash including posting flyers everywhere and offering a reward. While they received many calls about orange cats, none were Bilyash.

And then they got a call. A woman had him and they rushed over, scanning his chip, and it was him! We have no idea how he got around a river, in traffic, in one piece! Again, he was in really rough shape, gone for over three weeks. He came back to the shelter where he has again recovered.

Now's the part where his story gets good - Bilyash has the opportunity to start over and put these traumas behind him. We have a volunteer who has made several trips over to Ukraine to help take care of the cats and dogs displaced by the war and she is ready to fly back with Bilyash. We would be honored to help Bilyash start over and finally be able to relax and feel safe. Bilyash has some lingering special needs that we're supporting him through. Any support you can give for Bilyash and his future would be greatly appreciated!
