Majestic Theatre

One Community. One Theatre. It's Majestic! The Lexington Majestic Theatre is a community-driven project that turned the theatre into a non-profit movie house.

We would like to thank the community for their support, both in volunteering at the theatre and in coming in to watch movies and buy popcorn. In addition to bringing in over 50 blockbuster films this year, the Majestic has been happy to collaborate with the community to bring in over a dozen events. These include our beloved holiday classic matinees, a special Veteran’s Day event, United by Culture Media sponsored films, and a collaboration with NET-PBS Kids for first glimpse episodes of some of our favorite children’s programming.

Volunteers have played a critical role in the success of the Majestic.  On any given movie night, you can find Lexington Middle School and High School students selling tickets and serving popcorn. In addition to local students, many businesses and individuals donate their time to help at the theater. Volunteers say they enjoy the atmosphere at the Majestic and like seeing families come in excited to see new movies.

With the help of LCF funds, recent improvements to the Majestic include:

• A hearing loop was installed thanks to the donations from 2015 Give BIG Lexington. The hearing loop is a special sound system used by people with hearing aids and provides a better movie-going experience for hearing-impaired patrons. 
• In 2017, a canopy and digital marquee were installed on the outside of the Majestic. This addition greatly improved the outer appearance of the Majestic and allowed us to advertise our upcoming movies to downtown shoppers and visitors. 
• 2020 funds were used to upgrade to web-based server technology. This allows us to troubleshoot remotely in the event of a server error. It also provides for user-friendly programming and scheduling of movies. 
• In early 2021, we reconfigured the lobby space to optimize flow. The addition of a longer concession counter and second register has allowed us to serve our customers more efficiently.
• 2022 GBL funds assisted in the installment of a high-quality digital cinema sound processor. The Dolby® Digital CP750 delivers the best in surround sound and has added to the quality of movie experiences at The Majestic.

New GBL funds will be prioritized to help keep our facility in good working order and maintain a quality theater, both physically and aesthetically. A portion of our donations will also go towards movie licensing fees and community events. 

The Majestic Theatre is thankful for the ongoing support, whether it is financial or by coming to one of our shows. The intent has always been to bring quality, affordable entertainment back home while making connections with the community and the students of Lexington. We plan to keep that going!
