The Friends of the Library is an integral part of ALL that the Lexington Public Library does. This year’s project goal is to purchase six picnic tables for the library to use daily and for special events. The recycled plastic tables we have in mind are sturdy, weather and fade resistant, and versatile. Public outdoor seating and eating areas are utilized at the library on a daily basis so the addition of tables owned by the library will be a fixture for years to come. Please consider making a donation to the Friends of the Library and support this year’s project.
The Lexington Public Library hosts programs and events funded by the Lexington Community Foundation through the Library Initiative Grant. This two-year grant provides up to $10,000 annually to fund the Lexington Public Library's cultural, educational, and entertainment programs.
The library celebrated summer with the theme of ‘Color Our World’. Art classes at the library and at the middle school, a production of Page to Stage- The Little Mermaid by Crane River Theater, the annual Summer Safety Workshop & Bike Rodeo, illusionist Keith West, and the LEGO Guy were all special events for kids and families in May and June 2025. We rounded out the summer with our 4th Annual End-of-Summer Party & Street Dance on August 8th. Who knew that water balloons, musical chairs, and ‘Granny Pants’ could be so much fun.
The Library Initiative Grant also supported the One Book, One Lexington programs. Speakers from the National Willa Cather Center in Red Cloud, NE gave presentations about the One Book title, My Antonia. The generosity of the Foundation also brought Sean Gaskell to the library in July. Audience members were introduced to the West African kora and were entranced by the sound and singing. Thanks to the Lexington community and the Lexington Community Foundation, YOUR Lexington Public Library is a place for everyone to belong, connect, explore, learn, and grow!
