Johnson Lake Fireworks “Light up the Lake”

For 22 years Johnson Lake has hosted an amazing fireworks show!

The show has evolved over the years. In 2001 a committee of individuals pooled some money and put on the first show. The show grew in popularity and gained support from the greater lake community. A pyrotechnician was hired in 2003 and in 2005 KRVN began broadcasting live patriotic music during the show. Spectacular fireworks displays and dramatic music make for a memorable show each and every year.

Nebraska Game & Parks estimates there are more than 60,000 perople enjoy "Light up the Lake" each year. The effort to put on such a spectacular display does not happen without the help of many volunteers. A special “Thank You” to all of those who volunteer their time and services, especially the Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District for the use of their land, the Elwood Fire Department for providing emergency services if needed, and the Dawson & Gosper County Sheriff Departments, and the Nebraska State Patrol for assisting in traffic control and closing down the road during the show.

The generous donations to the Johnson Lake “Light up the Lake” Fireworks Fund allow the show to continue each year. The fireworks displays at Johnson Lake are regarded as the best in this area, because of our donors. Thank you!

Your donation to “Light up the Lake” 2024 will light up the sky on July 5, 2024!

Mark your calendars to give on November 9th and visit Johnson Lake next July to enjoy the show.
