Children's Museum

If you are like-minded with those who believe that childhood is the right time to cultivate curiosity and creativity through exploration, consider donating to the Dawson County Children's Museum.

The mission of the Dawson County Children's Museum is to offer children and adults the opportunity to explore areas of science, math, social studies, and fine arts through free play, hands-on exploration, and demonstration.

The museum offers 15 centers to experience and explore. Play in a treehouse, search for hidden wildlife while "camping," relax and read a story, explore science, create art, put together puzzles, build with Legos, dress up, or do a puppet play, plus much more! Also offered is an area specifically designed for toddlers. The open floor plan of the museum makes it easy for adult caregivers to supervise multiple children simultaneously, with each child engaged in the activity of their choice.

The museum provides a themed program on the second Saturday of each month. Past activities have been related to science, health, culture, or music. Participants are welcome to stay and play in the museum's center after the program.

Dawson County Children's Museum sponsors the Polar Express Adventure during the holiday season. Tickets are purchased in advance for a ride around Lexington to see the holiday decorations while listening to the story "Polar Express." The evening includes a stop for cookies, hot cocoa, and a visit with Santa. 

The museum is available to rent for special occasions such as birthday parties or receptions. Additionally, messages can be placed on our highly visible electronic sign.

Donations received through past Give BIG Lexington events helped finance the renovations needed to turn a former Pizza Hut into a museum we can all be proud of. Donations also allow us to keep admission costs low. Please consider donating to the Dawson County Children's Museum, and know that your donation goes to cover operating expenses as the museum is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization.
