Our mission is to foster camaraderie among United States Veterans of overseas conflicts and to serve our veterans, the military and or communities and advocate on behalf of all veterans. VFW Auxiliary 890 is active in our community, organizing and conducting events to involve Veterans and their families.
Funds raised will go towards the following:

Funds raised will go toward the following:
- Continued improvements to the Ave of Flags at Memorial Park including flags flown at the VFW hall.
- Special events such as the Memorial Day program and Veterans Day program.
- Replacing the air conditioning unit at the Post Hall. It is no longer in operation.
- Area Veterans in need.
- VFW scholarship that will directly benefit our Cozad youth
VFW Post 890 is active in our community, organizing and conducting events to involve Veterans and their families.
These events and services include the following:
- Cards and recognition to Veterans at our local Nursing/Assisted living facilities.
- Memorial Day Ceremony at Memorial Park
- The Avenue of flags at Memorial Park and the VFW post. This includes maintaining, storing, and organizing the placement of over 300 memorial flags for our community to enjoy and in remembrance of those Veterans no longer with us.
- Maintaining, ordering and placing bricks at the Bricks of Honor located at Memorial Park.
- Maintaining, planning and organizing names to be engraved on the Monument at Memorial Park.
- We maintain, store, and fly over 30 flags on Patriotic holidays at the VFW Post for our community to enjoy.
- We offer our VFW building for rent to the community for special occasions, such as graduation celebrations, funerals, weddings, family reunions, and other events.
- Honor Guard services via our Cozad Honor Guard. The Cozad Honor Guard operates out of the VFW Building and is manned by several members of the VFW, Legion and other veterans in the community.
- Speaking with students at the Cozad Schools about what it means to serve our country. We share firsthand experiences of our service in peace time and war. This allows our youth to hear about our history firsthand.
- The Veterans Day Program at the Cozad High School.
- Voice of Democracy and Patriots Pen essay scholarship program to our local students. This is a nationwide program with very large scholarship opportunities.
- Teacher of the Year award given to local outstanding educators. This is a nationwide program in which the teachers can be awarded funds for their school and classrooms.
- Maintain an emergency relief fund available to local Veterans who have fallen on hard times and need financial assistance.
- In conjunction with the American Legion we offer a $1000 scholarship to a local student.
