The Cozad Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad is 100% volunteer, made up of 34 dedicated members, 18 of whom are EMTs, who selflessly serve our community. Our mission is simple yet vital: to protect lives and property through teamwork, professionalism, safety, and compassion.
Our Service in Action
In 2024, our department answered 499 calls—80 fire and 419 rescue. As of July 31, 2025, we’ve already answered 299 calls (65 fire and 234 rescue). Beyond emergency response, our members dedicate countless hours to:
Fire prevention programs in schools
Junior Fire Patrol training
Community standbys at sporting and local events
Maker Fair safety education
All of this work is done voluntarily, with members balancing their own personal lives while responding at all hours to keep Cozad and Dawson County safe.
Why We Need Your Support
Our department has outgrown our current fire hall. As our equipment grows in size and our membership expands, our existing facility no longer meets the needs of our community. To continue providing the highest level of service, we must build a new fire hall and training area.
This new facility will allow us to:
Safely house our equipment and vehicles.
Provide better training opportunities for members.
Create space to grow as we serve future generations.
How You Can Help
We are applying for grants, but we can’t do this alone. We’re relying on community fundraisers and donations to make this vision possible. Every dollar brings us closer to a safer, more efficient fire and rescue service for Cozad.
By supporting Cozad Volunteer Fire & Rescue, you are investing in the safety of your neighbors, your family, and your community. Together, we can build the facility our volunteers need, and that our community deserves.
