Cozad VFW Auxiliary Post 5136

What Our Organization Does

The VFW Auxiliary Post 5136 exists to provide unwavering support for uncommon heroes the Veterans who have served our nation with courage, sacrifice, and honor. As the Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Dawson County, we stand beside those who have given so much, ensuring they are remembered, respected, and supported.

How We Help the Community

Our Auxiliary plays a vital role in preserving patriotism, honoring service, and educating future generations. Each year, we organize and lead:

• Memorial Day Services
• Veterans Day Services
• Voice of Democracy & Patriot’s Pen essay competitions
• Scholarship programs for graduating seniors
• Support and assistance for local Veterans in need

These programs strengthen community pride, teach young people the value of service, and ensure that Veterans in Cozad and surrounding areas receive the recognition and care they deserve.

What Our Project Hopes to Accomplish

Our mission is rooted in service to Veterans, to families, and to the community.

Through Give Big Cozad 2026, we aim to:

• Place flags around the park for Memorial Day
• Honor Veterans by placing flags on graves
• Provide direct assistance to local Veterans facing hardship
• Sustain the fundraising efforts that allow our organization to thrive and continue serving those who have sacrificed for our country

Every flag placed, every program hosted, every act of support is a reminder that Cozad remembers its heroes.

How We Have Impacted Cozad in the Last Year

This past year, our Auxiliary:

• Hosted a successful and meaningful Memorial Day Program
• Recognized area Veterans newly added to the memorial in the park
• Installed a new air conditioner at the Post building
• Converted our restroom to be handicap accessible, ensuring our facility is welcoming and accessible to all Veterans

These improvements strengthen our ability to serve Veterans and host community events with dignity and comfort.

How We Will Use Give Big Funds

Funds raised during Give Big Cozad will directly support:

• Expanding Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen, giving more students in Cozad and surrounding communities the opportunity to participate
• Upkeep and maintenance of the Grant Cook Jr. VFW Post building
• Continued support for programs that honor Veterans and educate youth

Your generosity helps us reach more students, support more Veterans, and preserve the traditions that keep patriotism alive in Cozad.

Fundraising Goal: $5,000

Every dollar strengthens our mission. Every gift honors a Veteran. Every act of support helps us continue serving those who have served us.
