Greetings from day 3!!
Can't attach my video here but I'll still type this out.
It is currently day 3 of the trip(and my first update lol). Sunday was a travel day and it was so exhausting because everything felt longer this year and we had a lot more downtime in between things as opposed to all at once. This trip has 64 of us coming down from Michigan!!
Monday-Wednesday has been relatively the same, schedule-wise. We met our family on Monday! It is a couple with two boys named Kalep and Jose, ages 5 and 3. I have been painting a lot as well as apply stain and sanding pieces for a wooden ladder(SOOOO satisfyingggg). Today(Wednesday) I painted and nailed drywall into the loft, something I did last year.
For reference, our house is pretty small but has 4 distinct areas. There is the walk-in room that connects everything, two bedrooms next to each other, and a loft above the bedrooms. It's a small space but it can be very useful!!
Another small thing was that yesterday(Tuesday), we went to the house that we had built last year. The youngest child of their house(Noe, 9 years old I think) had prepared gifts for us and gave me an elephant stuffed animal!! It was such a bittersweet moment. The family was pretty shy and quiet last year, but the mom was so talkative and very welcoming to showing us her home that we had built. They had really made it their own!! And it was so cool to see the impact :D
And yeah. That's about it from Mexico right now! See ya on the flip ✌️
I'm excited to announce that I am going to Mexico this year to build a house for the THIRD time!! On this trip, we are able to build a house for a family in Mexico that is either living on a dirt floor under tarps, or does not yet have a structure of their own. These families work in poor conditions in Mexico and do not have enough money to stabilize themselves for something as big as a house.
That's where we come in! My church, Oak Pointe, is partnering with an organization called Baja Bound that builds houses to these families for FREE!!
Not only that, but we also take trips to other places in local communities to help out. My first year on the trip, we visited several orphanages - one of which was a special needs orphanage. We also visit several migrant camps and give out food and supplies there.
If you're a Christian, this trip gets even better. We partner with local churches in the area to help spread the gospel of Jesus. At the very last day of the trip, we give a bible and the keys of the house to the family. It's a very emotional day and the overall trip is very impactful, let me tell you!!!
The rest of this is pretyped and gives you another perspective on the trip that isn't mine:
